The fact that Sara Cox is moving to 4 to 7 and Scott will be 2 to 4 makes me think the 12 to 2 slot will eventually disappear and they'll extend Scott when Ken leaves.

But Serious Fader Wankin (no G) stays on BBC Sounds, and maybe he'll do the Sunday morning show live now.

This must be the first time a DJ leaving their radio show has made the news in this way since Terry Wogan left Radio 2.

The 12 'til 2 slot is Jeremy Vine.

Have to admit, I didn’t expect that the thing to knock Stranger Things from number 1 trend on Twitter today would be Steve Wright.

I get the impression a lot of other DJs look down on Wright (I seem to remember hearing Chris Moyles taking the piss once and it had a slightly nasty tone to it). It’s a sad day. Do I listen to his show? Nope. Is he a relic of a bygone era? Definitely. But the odd time I did hear his show, it seemed to be something that knew it’s time would soon be up but was still made with the sole purpose of entertaining. His Serious Jockin is cringe and his singing along to songs is terrible, but it’s kind of endearing.

I mean if you want to hear other DJs rinsing Wrighty as far back as the 80s, look no further

For the uninitiated, the Bastard Brothers are believed to be a certain Gary King and Paul Mckenna (yes, later to find fame as a hypnotist) who were both pretty good impressionists and put together a series of Christmas Tape style recordings while at, I believe, Chiltern Radio taking the piss out of the great and good of radio

My mistake. I could see the change happening when Vine leaves possibly extending Breakfast to 1000 so they end up with
0630 - 1000
1000 - 1300
1300 - 1600
1600 - 1900

Doing that does mean the news and current affairs aspect that Vine covers would need reflecting across the schedule in someway.

I've always found it strange that BBC Radio 2 needs to have news and current affairs when that's covered by 5 Live.

He may have taken the mickey like he did with a lot of DJs (including John Peel who he ended up being best friends with) but I thought Moyles had a lot of respect for Wright, certainly he seemed to indicate that when he did an interview with him for his Radio 1 breakfast DJs documentary in 2010.

That particular slot originated 21 years before 5 Live launched.

Indeed.

It was Jimmy Young's slot originally.
