In retrospect, even on the blue place, the International Presentation thread was similar, but no one had any issue with it mostly just being a place where presentation was posted with no comment.

I don't see what makes this any different. The decision to heavily moderate a thread in the same way as the GB News thread is genuinely baffling. I understand why they want more conversation to happen, but forcing it like this isn't going to make posters more inclined to post on the thread, if not forum.

If anything, they'll probably seek other avenues, like on the (bleugh) Digital Spy forums, maybe start up their own pres-related social media accounts or create a Discord server about the niche topic. The only reason anyone is actively still there is because it's practically the only place to learn about TV pres news before anyone else (i.e: dbl with UKTV, since he works there).

Between this, websnatching and having certain forum posters having to have their posts heavily moderated, this is no better than a child moderating a "Minecraft" (or any online video game targeted to young people) forum and having to delete obscenities because their parents are looking at their history. If you want conversation to be organic, you should be more looser and open, rather than secretive and trigger happy.

Ultimately it's up to the admin and mods what they do, and they presumably have their own reasons for pre-moderating certain threads.

However, I do find it slightly frustrating that certain threads remain pre-moderated for a prolonged/indefinite period. When wanting to make a purely presentation related comment about a live or current event I find it stifles conversation. Due to the inevitable delay in posts being approved it means the conversation is unable to flow smoothly, as potentially someone may have already replied in between but you cannot yet see it. It also means that by the time you can see your post if you've made a minor error the edit post window has long gone.

I think it's fair to say from the blue (and purple) place that the GB News threads were historically the most problematic. However, I'd have thought by now the majority of users would know what is and isn't allowed, as things were made fairly clear with the Hue Edwards saga and Scofield being sacked from This Morning. Maybe they could consider time limiting pre-moderating threads to one month (or less), and then see if the thread remains calm and on-topic afterwards, though as I wrote at the start it's their forum and their choice what to do.

Probably since the channel is geared towards teenagers and 20 year olds, who probably don't really celebrate Christmas, they have not bothered. I mean does BBC Four bother with new Christmas presentation?

I can understand why some threads like the GB News ones are proactively moderated, but the big problem with that is when there's something to talk about and posts are taking many hours to be moderated.

Today the mods are complaining about the 'pile on' of posts of the same tweet from a presenter who's been fired. Thing is that if it wasn't moderated in that way everyone could see that it had already been posted, and not post the same thing! You can't have a discussion when there's a 12 hour delay in posts

Their other point is about posts that are just a single link and little discussion. I can see what they're getting at, but when something happens it's often not possible to write an essay to contextualise it. It's a policy that's inconsistently enforced too, fine on some threads

Can you share with us the perfectly good TV news source that they wouldn't allow so we can see it too as that does seem a bit unusual?

Sorry, didn't see this and it's been months now so no chance of finding it.

I think it was the news that Eden was going onto Freeview which was posted by someone who posts media news on Twitter.

Of course it was correct, as I knew it was at the time. Problem is I can't post information like that directly, but if I'm quoting a third party that has published that information that's ok.... but I can't if that source is on the naughty list

Just seen the post about GBN departures. Understand the desire to cut down on copycat posts but the response seems a bit harsh to me.

And, as has been said, likely the only reason there were so many posts about the same thing is because the thread is pre-moderated, so people were making their cpost with no idea how many other people, if anyone, had posted about it as none had been approved. So to tell people off for it is ridiculous.
