No, the middle of the night is halfway between 21:00 and 00:00, which 22:30.

As far as I'm concerned, whenever it's "am" it's morning, not night, or middle of the night.

Well, that's just dumb. Evening does not start until 18:00, and night-time starts at 21:00.

The LBC 7pm News bulletin should be renamed "Evening News" for clarity and correctness.

But for example I would say 'I didn't get to sleep until 1 o clock last night', not this morning.

I'd say "1AM last night."

For me,

0100 - 1159 Morning
1200 - 1659 Afternoon
1700 - 2259 Evening
2300 - 0059 Night

Last night, whatever time, is the dark period before I end up in bed. The only exception to this is when I don't end up in bed, but lets not confuse things.
