TDR Capital are to acquire Zuber Issa's majority shares in Asda.

Mohsin Issa will remain a minority shareholder along with Walmart.

It's a bit of a dry article, but El Reg are reporting that Asda's IT (still not yet migrated from Walmart's systems) is to be outsourced to TCS - which sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

The comments are an interesting read too - including someone claiming the Issa brothers have fallen out (hence Zuber selling his share to private equity), and that the recent shift to a new payroll provider left hundreds of staff paid hundreds of pounds short.

I'm having flashbacks to when Morrisons took over Safeway, and brought with them their paper-based stockkeeping systems, leading to them having no idea what they had on the shelves (much of which then ended up being way beyond its best-before dates)

Not to be a lemon but what do you mean by a paper-based system? Were Safeway using a computerised system which Morrisons switched to paper?

Yes, that's exactly what happened. Taking things back 20-odd years was always going to cause massive problems.

Yes, and they also glued pieces of plastic over the pay-at-the-pump card readers in the petrol stations to make them unusable...

They've recently installed a bit of a one-way system, with permanent fencing leading from the wind lobby to the entry gates. It does make it a bit awkward if you just need to go to the pharmacy or the parcel collection robot, which are on the exit side.
